Ford is implementing Microsoft Azure to automatically update its cars’ infotainment systems via wifi.
Until now, Ford’s infotainment system would be updated when the vehicle was brought into a dealership or with the use of a USB stick. With the Azure cloud system, vehicle navigation, contacts, audio systems and touch screens will automatically update over wifi.
The new Service Delivery Network system is expected to be available in all of Ford’s cars before the end of 2016.
This follows Toyota, who developed a cloud-services partnership around Azure with Microsoft in 2011.
