Microsoft has announced it has agreed to buy startup Xamarin, a leading platform provider for mobile app development.
In the Official Microsoft Blog Scott Guthrie, Executive Vice President, Cloud and Enterprise Group, said “...we are working to enable even greater developer opportunity and innovation by providing the best experiences to all developers, on any device, with powerful tools, an open platform and a global cloud. As part of this commitment, I am pleased to announce today that Microsoft has signed an agreement to acquire Xamarin…”
He added, “The combination of Xamarin, Visual Studio, Visual Studio Team Services, and Azure provides a complete mobile app dev solution that provides everything you need to develop, test, deliver and instrument mobile apps for every device.”
Microsoft will be talking more about the Xamarin acquisition at the annual //Build conference which is taking place in San Francisco March 30th – April 1st. According to Guthrie it will be a large part of his keynote.
