Our expert Microsoft team principally specialises in software development, engineering, modernisation and integration for the Microsoft Cloud, as well as on-premises and hybrid systems. Our expertise is in Microsoft .NET and Azure, SQL Server, BizTalk Server and Xamarin.

Our custom software engineering is focused on business solutions and provides our clients with software tailored to meet specific business requirements. We can readily claim to be one of the UK’s pioneers of custom cloud-based software and integration from the very beginnings in the late ’90s.

Now a practice within Transparity, our co-founders are still hands-on, leading the team as General Manager and Technical Head of Practice. Every client benefits from their years of experience, business and technical know-how and willingness to jump in and get involved.

Geoff Ballard

Technical Head of Practice

As Co-Founder of Ballard Chalmers, Geoff continues to lead technically, directing technical strategy, overseeing technical consultants, managing larger development projects and ensuring technical delivery quality standards. Geoff has been a SQL Server consultant since the very first beta release by Microsoft and is a trainer and author in Microsoft technology, including the courses ‘Transact-SQL Programming’, ‘Microsoft BizTalk Server’ and ‘Microsoft Office SharePoint Server Administration’. Born in 1957, Geoff holds a BA (Hons) degree in mathematics, an MSc in Database Management Systems from the University of London and also is a C.Eng (Chartered Engineer). Additionally, he is a certified SQL Server Development and Administration MCITP and MCTS. In his spare time, Geoff is a keen sailor and likes island hopping in the Mediterranean.

Andrew ChalmersAndrew Chalmers

General Manager

Co-Founder and now General Manager of the practice, Andrew has over 30 years’ experience in business management. With consultant project manager, interim manager and Managing Director roles particularly in the engineering and manufacturing sector and over much of the world, Andrew brings the business-side experience to complement Geoff’s technical leadership. Amongst other groundbreaking projects, in 1998 Andrew created one of the very first cloud software development consultancies in the UK, which developed a very early-adoption corporate intranet for Hewlett Packard Europe. Outside of business Andrew fulfils his childhood dream of racing a classic Porsche 911. He is also very active in the support of human rights charities in India and the subcontinent. Born in 1965, Andrew is proudly Australian, despite his English accent.

I note that it is a year this month that I started working with you. The team, the projects and the overall support I’ve received have been great. I really enjoy working with you all.
